If you are interested in news and comment and I asked you to explain general information found on a normal subject, what would you consider? Come on. Tell me. Want me to guess? You see general information as news that is latest and is written for the general public containing marketing for people in general interested in books, or, you may think of general news as worldwide news that everyone in the world can relate to. For example, the current oil spill is general news as it impacted so many countries, or perhaps the past slump, since it upset more than half of the nations in the whole world. If you imagine that, then you are right with what you consider information and news.

For a much better definition, general news is a kind of news that is composed for the masses. This means, everybody can relate to it. As an author, it is hard to write all-purpose news that is because you must analyze on topics that not only people in a particular area can relate to, but people all over the world can be concerned about. The two mentioned above are clear, since a lot of countries are affected. However, it is not a daily news that a bank messes up its funds, or when an oil spill happens, threatening nearly half of the population of the world’s marine life forms.

So, as a columnist who is tasked to write general news, you have to think carefully on what you are going to deliver, and you need to do extensive research first. This is due to the fact that your audience is the whole world, there is no space for mistake, and if you commit one, or write anything that is false, then it will definitely affect the newspaper that you are writing for.

On the whole, when writing blogs about everything, you need to be cautious of two very simple items, your subject and relation to the whole world. So, whatever occurred in Hawaii that isn’t something major isn’t worthwhile for general news.
